Malossi T5 Cylinder Kit

Malossi manufacture a wide range of performance products for Classic Vespa scooters, and owners of the Vespa T5 and T5 Classic are also well catered for in the range with a performance alloy cylinder kit.

The 172cc cylinder is manufactured from aluminium which has a nicasil plated bore, featuring a 5 port design with increased cooling capabilities due to the redesigned fin layout. 

The cylinder can be fitted to either the standard unmodified crankcases, or for maximum power output, modifications can be made to the cases as required. Fitting the cylinder kit to an otherwise unmodified T5 will only require minor jetting alterations.

Further performance increases can be made by combining the 172cc cylinder kit with a larger carburettor kit and performance exhaust system. Owners that wish to use the Malossi Power PX 125 exhaust system with the cylinder kit can utilise the VE “T5 exhaust stub kit (part number VE13093)” that is available at an extra cost.

Supplied as a complete kit with cylinder, piston, gudgeon pin, piston circlips, small end bearing, gasket set, and exhaust studs.

NEW - Vespa PX/LML Star Reed Valve Crankcases

VE (UK) have some great news for owners of Vespa PX 125/150 and LML Star 125 scooters who are looking at upgrading to reed valve induction. VE have reed valve cases available, and most existing parts will simply swap over from the rotary engine, with only minor modifications required for earlier non electric start models.

The new LML reed valve induction crankcase can be also be used to replace the crankcases on Vespa and LML rotary valve induction scooters, saving time and money compared to modifying their existing cases, or as an excellent base for a new engine build. SRP for the reed valve cases are £185.98 incl Vat. 

VE (UK) also stock a full range of bearings, gaskets, and oil seals that should be replaced during the rebuild.

Malossi Transmission Tuning Products

Getting the best performance out of your Automatic Scooters transmission setup is imperative in order to obtain the best overall performance.

Malossi manufacture a wide range of products expressly designed to make transmission tuning not only easier, but also with a greater flexibility of adjustment. All of Malossi’s products are made in Italy, ensuring the highest quality available. Furthermore all of their products have been tested extensively not only in the R&D department but also on the race track with race proven history.

Starting at the front of the transmission, the variator rollers are key to obtaining the correct expansion of the front pulley for any previous tuning adjustments that have been made, whether it be a performance cylinder kit, or performance exhaust. Malossi rollers are available in 22 different sizes covering virtually every transmission currently available. Included in each size fitment are up to 24 different weights available (dependant on size) catering for all levels of tuning from standard through to full race use.

Moving to the rear of the transmission, a number of products are used to achieve the best balance between the rear pulley and the clutch. Malossi offer a wide range of torsion springs to fine tune the rear pulleys expansion under power with a stiffer spring, allowing more RPM to be achieved before expansion occurs. As the power output of the engine increases it is often necessary to fit a stronger torsion spring to increase the grip on the belt to prevent it slipping in the rear pulley.

To resist twisting of the torsion spring, Malossi developed their Torsion Controller, a simple device that sits under the spring allowing it to rotate under load. This reduces vibration and rotational loading of the spring, making for a more linear expansion of the pulley, resulting in a smoother feeling transmission.

Another key aspect to transmission tuning is the point at which the clutch engages. Aside from fitting a Malossi Delta adjustable clutch assembly, small refinements can be made to the bite point by fitting uprated clutch springs. Malossi offer their clutch springs in matched sets giving the user three different spring sets with varying strengths to fine tune the engagement point. This allows a higher RPM to be achieved before the clutch engages, something that many people overlook when tuning.

Malossi transmission products are available for all capacities of Automatic Scooter from 50cc to 850cc.

Malossi developed their clutch plate set for the Yamaha TMax 500 race series, born out of a need for a high performance, slip resistant assembly that could perform flawlessly under race conditions on tuned machines. 

The clutch plates themselves are asbestos free and are produced from a material using special fibres to resist slipping whilst offering excellent heat resistance and enable a progressive engagement curve.

The clutch plate set suits all year variants of the TMax 500 and is supplied with 3 sets of springs allowing fine tuning of the clutches engagement point in the rev range. The springs are manufactured from a pre hardened carbon steel that have been treated to offer an extended life cycle.
